The Quran is the holy book of Islam, revealed to Prophet Muhammad ﷺ through the angel Jibreel over a period of 23 years. Muslims believe it is the literal word of Allah and the final guidance for all of humanity.
Below is the opening verse of Surah Al-Fatiha, the first chapter of the Quran:
بِسْمِ ٱللَّٰهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
In English: "In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful."
This verse, called the Basmala, is recited before every chapter of the Quran except one. It is also said before beginning many daily activities — eating, studying, traveling — as a reminder that we begin each thing in the name of Allah.
