A small group of older students elected each year by their peers — to plan, to represent, and to learn what it feels like to take responsibility for something larger than themselves.

Student council at Afghan Academy is intentionally small and intentionally consequential. Members are elected each fall, meet with the principal twice a month, and own a meaningful slice of the school year — including the events students remember decades after they graduate.
Organizes events
From the Eid breakfast to spring spirit week, student council plans and runs the gatherings that make the Saturday school feel like more than school.
Represents student voice
Council members carry feedback from classmates to teachers and the principal — and bring decisions back the other way, in language students will actually hear.
Develops leaders
Running for a seat, holding it well, and handing it off cleanly is its own curriculum. Council alumni go on to lead at high schools and colleges across the region.
